What Is Diabetes?
This chronic health condition is directly related to how your body transforms food into energy. The food you eat is then broken down into sugar in your bloodstream. As sugar levels rise, the pancreas releases insulin. The insulin moves blood sugar to your cells to use for energy.
When you have diabetes, your body either can’t use its insulin or doesn’t make enough insulin. Without sufficient insulin, or if the cells stop responding to this hormone, and the bloodstream keeps too much sugar. This can lead to kidney disease, heart disease and vision loss.
